157th Infantry

1985.281 National Color Unknown v2p462
157th Infantry, National Color. Composed of only four-companies from Philadelphia, the 157th was organized in the fall of 1862. The battalion received the national color early during their term of service. On March 21, 1865 the survivors of the battalion were consolidated with the 191st PA, which was mustered out of service on June 28, 1865.

1985.282 State Color Horstmann Brothers and Company v2p462
157th Infantry, State Color. Composed of only four-companies from Philadelphia, the 157th was organized in the fall of 1862. On March 21, 1865 the survivors of the battalion were consolidated with the 191st PA, which was mustered out of service on June 28, 1865. Major Edmund T. Tiers requested a state color the same day the battalion was consolidated with the 191st PA, and although the flag was made, the regiment never saw its state color. The color was in the original flag room, but was somehow stolen and not returned for many years. In 1900, the director of the Harrisburg city dump found the flag in a pile of rubbish.
